Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN)

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a full-time day-shift Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse in Lake Placid, Florida. The nurse works with a multidisciplinary team to assess, develop and evaluate comprehensive care plans, manage patient transitions and ensure quality care in line with nursing standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients' goals, biophysical, psychosocial and environmental needs and discharge planning needs, and act as a liaison to post-hospital care providers and community resources
• Manage patient transitions and transfer accountability upon discharge
• Respond to life-threatening situations according to protocol and implement emergency procedures such as Code Blue and life-threatening dysrhythmias
• Supervise, evaluate and review patient care activities, give constructive feedback to staff and document care accurately, including drug allergies, lab data and patient education
• Maintain a clean, safe environment, follow CDC sterile technique and isolation guidelines, use PPE correctly and perform hand hygiene
• Administer medications, IV fluids and treatments accurately per physician orders and nursing policies
• Attend practice group meetings and participate in regular peer reviews

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Associate's degree in Nursing (required)
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification (required)
• 1+ year of acute care experience preferred
• Subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting

Required skills

• Technical nursing principles, clinical judgment and critical thinking
• Accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
• Effective verbal and written communication and teamwork
• Knowledge of medication administration and pharmacology
