Medical Director – Primary Care & Community Health

About the role

Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) is seeking a Medical Director to lead clinical excellence in primary care and community health while maintaining an active patient panel. This senior position blends direct patient care with strategic leadership in a mission‑driven, federally qualified health center.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants across primary care.
• Mentor providers, support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development.
• Lead quality‑improvement, population‑health, and care‑delivery initiatives.
• Collaborate with medical, behavioral health, dental, and care‑coordination teams.
• Implement evidence‑based policies, protocols, and clinical standards.
• Partner with the CEO and executive team on strategic organizational initiatives.

Required profile

• Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
• Demonstrated passion for community health and patient‑centered care.
• Experience in clinical leadership and provider mentorship.
• Commitment to quality improvement and population‑health strategies.
• Ability to balance leadership duties with an active clinical practice.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the eClinicalWorks electronic health record system.
