Med Surg RN

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a Med Surg Registered Nurse (RN) in Lake Placid, Florida, on a day shift with PRN scheduling. The nurse works with a multidisciplinary team to assess, develop and evaluate comprehensive care plans for patients and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients' goals, biophysical, psychosocial and environmental needs and discharge planning needs, and act as a liaison to post-hospital care providers and community resources.
• Manage patient transitions and transfer accountability upon discharge; attend practice group meetings and peer reviews.
• Respond to life-threatening situations according to protocol and manage emergency procedures, including Code Blue and life-threatening dysrhythmias.
• Supervise, evaluate and review patient care activities, give constructive feedback to staff and ensure quality care and adherence to nursing standards.
• Administer medications, IV fluids and treatments accurately per physician orders and nursing policies.
• Document patient care accurately, including drug allergies, lab data, diagnostic tests and patient education.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment, follow CDC sterile technique and isolation guidelines, use PPE correctly and perform hand hygiene.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Associate's degree in Nursing (required).
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification (required).
• 1+ year of acute care experience preferred.
• Subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting.

Required skills

• Technical nursing principles, clinical judgment and critical thinking.
• Accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Knowledge of pharmacology and medication administration.
• Effective verbal and written communication and teamwork.
