Mechanical Maintenance SkillBridge Opportunity

About the role

Amentum, an industry partner of the DOD SkillBridge program, is offering a Mechanical Maintenance position within its Industrial Facility Maintenance team at the GE Commercial site in Lafayette, IN. It is intended for transitioning service members and is open to candidates moving from active military duty in 2023/2024. The role supports senior technicians in responding to work orders, giving customers feedback on hot and cold calls, and carrying out preventive maintenance on facility equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and troubleshoot calls on pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, air handlers and similar equipment.
• Help senior mechanics respond to work orders and give customers service and feedback on hot and cold calls.
• Carry out preventive maintenance inspections and actions such as lubrication, cleaning and filter changes, and schedule work in the CMMS.
• Recommend improvements to maintenance methods and equipment performance.
• Follow safety regulations, including job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout and PPE, and enforce company policies.
• Use hand tools, laptops and diagnostic hardware, and adapt to shifts, weekends and alternative schedules.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently serving in the military and transitioning to civilian life within the next year.
• At least 3 years of maintenance experience.
• Willingness to work overtime when required and to obtain a security access badge at the client site.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and work in a plant environment; a valid driver's license may be required.
• No sponsorship for U.S. work authorization is provided.

Preferred qualifications

• Basic knowledge of repair, electrical and mechanical theory.
• Experience with hand tools and basic computer skills for data entry and email.
