Mechanical Engineer, P.E. - Accident Reconstruction

About the role

EFI Global, a full-service engineering, fire investigation, environmental, health and safety and specialty consulting firm, is hiring a Mechanical Engineer with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license for its forensic team in Los Angeles. The engineer investigates accident sites, vehicles and equipment, documents evidence, determines damage and provides expert opinions for legal and insurance cases. Vehicle accident reconstruction experience is required; ACTAR certification is preferred. Candidates should live in the greater Los Angeles area.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate vehicles, equipment and accident sites to document evidence and determine the scope of damage.
• Assess damages caused by failures and determine the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
• Research, evaluate, analyze and test the causation of accidents and failures.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to produce detailed reports on the cause of the accident.
• Serve as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.
• Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and engineering projects.
• Work with EFI's national team of forensic experts on projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
• Six years of experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Vehicle accident reconstruction experience required; ACTAR certification preferred.
• Ability to travel as required and to work outdoors in hot or cold conditions.

What we offer

• Starting pay range of $130,000-$150,000 for the Los Angeles jurisdiction.
