Forensic Electrical Engineer, P.E. (Remote)

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) Electrical Engineer for a remote, home-based position. The role covers forensic investigation of electrical failures, fire origins and cause, and litigation support, with local or regional travel and a preference for candidates living in Southern California.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and assess complex failures, including power system analysis, fire origin and cause, equipment and product failures, lightning and surge damage, and construction defects.
• Inspect loss scenes in residential, commercial and industrial buildings and examine and test evidence in a laboratory.
• Analyze and document failure analysis and causation, and collaborate with other experts to write detailed reports.
• Act as expert witness in court and depositions.
• Document and maintain billable hours for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects.
• Guide and mentor newer colleagues on complex engineering assignments.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license, minimum required for the resident state; multi-state licensing and an active NCEES record preferred.
• Strong background in power system analysis, codes and standards, equipment and system failures, fire origin and cause, lightning and surge damage, product liability and construction defects.
• Willingness to learn power generation, grids, distribution, over-current, arc-fault and ground-fault protection, and arc mapping.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, climb, carry up to 50 pounds and pull up to 100 pounds, and to drive up to 4 hours per day.
