Experimental Physicist - Superconducting Quantum Devices

About the role

Applied Physics is seeking an Experimental Physicist in Los Angeles. The ideal candidate has experience in open quantum system dynamics, quantum information and quantum emulation with superconducting circuits. You will lead and oversee the design, simulation, fabrication, characterization and control of high-temperature superconducting materials for new applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the design, simulation and fabrication of a novel high-temperature superconducting material.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists to develop next-generation applications of superconducting quantum devices.
• Publish research results in external peer-reviewed journals and take part in domestic and international conferences.
• Lead independent, complementary research projects and interact with a broad range of scientists internally and externally.

Required profile

• PhD in physics, quantum optics, quantum information or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Advanced knowledge of circuit quantum electrodynamics and quantum control theory.
• Experience with aluminum Josephson-based circuits, including in-situ tip-tilt electron beam evaporation (Dolan or bridge-free techniques) and electron beam lithography of nanoscale circuits.
• Demonstrated ability to perform independent research and to develop and present scientific and technical proposals and reports.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for teamwork.
