Mechanical Design Engineer, New Programs

About the role

Join Tesla's New Programs Engineering team to shape the future of vehicle concepts. You will work at the front end of the design cycle, collaborating with design, vehicle, and powertrain engineers to create 3D models, prototypes, and demonstrators that guide downstream development.

Key responsibilities

• Document product plans, identify risks, and gather data to support design and leadership decisions.
• Own system‑level attributes during early product definition and present trade‑offs to cross‑functional partners.
• Support designers and modelers in defining manufacturing strategies and ensuring geometric solutions meet feasibility, regulatory, and mass‑production requirements.
• Brainstorm and develop new automotive solutions, build CAD models, and iterate designs through physical prototypes.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in a product development environment.
• Hands‑on experience narrowing product scope and facilitating cross‑functional decisions on complex products.
• Familiarity with automotive regulations, consumer ratings, and major load cases.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, create schedules, and report progress against program milestones.

Required skills

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software.
