Manufacturing Engineer – Machining

About the role

As a Manufacturing Engineer focused on machining at SpaceX, you will develop and implement innovative solutions for the production of spacecraft hardware. You will bridge engineering design and production, ensuring efficient, high‑quality manufacturing of components that support satellite launches and crewed missions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for product design and process improvements to boost manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost‑effectiveness.
• Analyze recurring manufacturing discrepancies, conduct root‑cause analysis with the quality team, and drive corrective actions.
• Create and manage manufacturing bills of materials, work instructions, and specifications.
• Collaborate daily with production, machining, maintenance, quality, and design engineering to meet delivery schedules.
• Lead projects evaluating alternate component technologies for reduced cost or improved reliability using project‑management tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics (Master’s preferred).
• 1+ years of hands‑on experience in design, development, manufacturing or testing (including internships or project work).
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and on‑site in Hawthorne, CA.

Required skills

• Experience with CNC machinery (lathe, mill, waterjet, laser cutter, EDM).
• CAM programming (Hypermill, MasterCAM, ESPRIT, NX).
• Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• CAD tools (NX, Teamcenter).
• Tooling design and design for manufacturability/assembly.
• Capacity modeling, process mapping, fault analysis.
• Lean Six Sigma or similar high‑performance improvement methodologies.
• Pareto analysis, root‑cause investigation, corrective‑action implementation.
