Senior Mission Operations Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Mission Operations Engineer at Reflect Orbital, you will own the day‑to‑day operation of spacecraft and the supporting infrastructure. This high‑ownership position involves writing and improving procedures, monitoring spacecraft health, and leading critical mission phases such as LEOP and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead real‑time operation shifts, including telemetry monitoring, command decisions, and anomaly response.
• Investigate on‑orbit anomalies, root‑cause issues, and document lessons learned.
• Perform long‑term telemetry trending, performance analysis, and refine alarm limits.
• Plan and execute spacecraft maneuvers, station‑keeping, and orbit‑raising campaigns.
• Develop, validate, and maintain operational procedures, flight rules, and command sequences.
• Build automation for telemetry monitoring, alerting, pass scheduling, and routine commanding.
• Collaborate with spacecraft engineering teams on CONOPS, fault management, and FDIR responses.
• Mentor and train junior operations engineers and participate in 24/7 rotating shift work.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field.
• 5+ years of experience in satellite mission operations or a related field.
• Solid understanding of spacecraft systems and subsystem interactions.
• Experience with on‑orbit anomaly investigation and LEOP or commissioning is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to stay composed under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with mission control software (e.g., OpenC3 COSMOS, L3Harris InControl).
• Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, C++ preferred).
• Familiarity with Linux environments and command‑line tools.
• Experience with DevOps tools and practices (Git, Docker, CI/CD).
• Knowledge of RF systems, ground station operations, and link budgets.
