Mechanical Deployment Engineer (Experienced Professional)

About the role

Michelin is hiring a Mechanical Deployment Engineer in Piedmont, South Carolina, to support the manufacturing operation of its airless Tweel tire. The role covers the mechanical engineering functions, processes and resources of the site, working within the Beyond Road Team that produces the non-pneumatic Tweel for ATVs, UTVs, skid steers, golf carts, zero-turn mowers, truck-mounted forklifts and autonomous equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Apply engineering principles to improve and strengthen process equipment, helping to design concepts, test solutions, install equipment and monitor performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability and efficiency, and design new equipment or processes.
• Simulate and test equipment or processes, write reports for senior colleagues and maintain accurate documentation of equipment and processes.
• Train staff on new processes or equipment, troubleshoot equipment and perform root cause analysis on major machine failures.
• Support the installation, start-up, modifications and evolution of manufacturing and chemical process machinery.
• Manage project teams and coordinate the application of various métier skills.

Required profile

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent M.E. experience; machine design experience required.
• Hands-on approach, willing to spend time on the shop floor and to travel occasionally (less than 5%), including possible international travel.
• Strong interpersonal, planning, organizational and communication skills, and ability to work autonomously on multiple tasks.
• Leadership and training skills strongly preferred; understanding of various métier skills.

Required skills

• SolidWorks experience required.
• Working knowledge of engineering drawings and schematics.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, technologies, theory and application.
• Strong computer skills preferred (MS Office, AutoCAD).
