Meat Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Meat Clerk in Waite Park. The Meat & Seafood Clerk keeps all store meat cases stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers as needed and maintains a friendly, energetic demeanor while following the Meat Department's procedural guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Keep meat and seafood cases, storage area and work area clean and safe, including sweeping floors and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock meat and seafood cases, present products, face and organize items according to Meat Department schematics, and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check the rotation of products and watch for expired stock.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and product selection, and sell and cross-sell products at the meat counter.
• Receive, inspect and log incoming products for shipment accuracy, temperature and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and maintain proper temperatures during production.
• Prepare meat and seafood products, pack and wrap them, and follow dating procedures.
• Organize, stack and rotate products in the cooler and freezer, and take part in pre-inventory preparation.
• Walk the department regularly to keep it organized, sanitary and clean, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in meat department processes, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail and basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.

Required skills

• Expert packaging and wrapping skills.
• Ability to cut and weigh meat and seafood, and use knives, tenderizers, grinders and meat machinery.
• Understanding of COOL compliance for seafood and knowledge of product origins.
• Customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and teamwork.
