Deli Bakery Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Deli/Bakery Clerk in Waite Park. The clerk keeps the deli and bakery cases stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and follows the Food Service Department's procedural guidelines. The position suits someone interested in the retail grocery market and organic products.

Key responsibilities

• Keep deli/bakery cases, storage area and work area clean and safe, including sweeping floors and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock cases, present products, face and organize items according to department schematics, and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check product rotation, discard expired or spoiled items and inspect incoming shipments for temperature and quality.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional material.
• Use equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and prepare deli/bakery items with accurate weighing and labeling.
• Take part in pre-inventory preparation and walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in food service, and previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.
• Skills with food service equipment such as knives, slicers, scales and ovens.
• Ability to cut and weigh meats, salads and cheeses.
• Attention to detail, multitasking, customer service and teamwork.
