Grocery Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market is hiring a Grocery Clerk in Waite Park. The clerk keeps all store grocery shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers as needed and maintains a friendly, energetic demeanor while following the Grocery Department's procedural guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Keep shelves, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and removing hazardous debris
• Stock shelves according to department schematics, present products, face and organize items, and check tag and pricing accuracy
• Check product rotation, discard expired or spoiled items and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, temperature and quality
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products
• Maintain point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional materials
• Use equipment such as knives, scales, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and weigh and label products
• Cut and stack cases for displays, prepare back stock and take part in pre-inventory checks
• Walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience and previous experience in a natural foods industry
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures
• Understanding of product handling, preparation, seasonality and shelf life
• Attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills
• Customer service and verbal communication
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail
