Materials Testing Technician

About the role

Hennessey Engineers is looking for a full‑time Materials Testing Technician to join our Southgate, MI office. You will perform on‑site and laboratory testing of concrete, asphalt, and soil, ensuring that construction work complies with project specifications and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Observe, measure, and test concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials on project sites.
• Conduct basic laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepare accurate test reports.
• Maintain, calibrate, and verify the status of laboratory testing equipment.
• Compile, analyze, and process lab data, producing detailed daily field reports.
• Communicate test results and observations to clients, contractors, and engineering staff.
• Verify that projects conform to approved construction documents and safety protocols.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of experience in field or laboratory materials testing.
• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Relevant certifications such as Michigan Concrete Technician – Level 1, MDOT Density Technology, Radiation Safety (HAZMAT), or Michigan Certified Aggregate Technician.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record and ability to travel to job sites.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb and work on uneven terrain.
