Construction Inspection Technician

About the role

Hennessey Engineers is looking for a full‑time Construction Inspection Technician to join our Southgate, MI office. The role involves on‑site observation and documentation of contractor activities to ensure compliance with contract specifications, offering exposure to a variety of projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed Inspector’s Daily Reports (IDRs) documenting work status, material usage, and site conditions.
• Submit calculations, sketches, and forms such as Concrete Placement Records and Permit to Place.
• Verify that construction work meets contract requirements and report non‑compliance to senior staff.
• Assist with Requests for Information and act as a liaison between contractors and senior technicians or engineers.
• Communicate with project teams, including engineers, testing technicians, survey staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Support senior technicians and engineers in confirming proper execution of project designs.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Concrete Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 2‑5+ years of inspection experience on municipal or agency projects; MDOT experience is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to travel to job sites.
• Physical ability to stand, sit, and lift up to 50 lb on uneven terrain.
