Architect – Design and Project Leadership

About the role

SOM is seeking an Architect to lead distinct portions of complex projects within interdisciplinary teams. The role combines creative design, technical development, and client collaboration to deliver sustainable, high‑impact built environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead specific project segments with periodic supervision from senior leadership.
• Produce and oversee presentation and contract deliverables, including diagrams, 3D models, drawings, renderings, physical models, and animations.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams, consultants, and clients through written, oral, and visual media.
• Develop strong conceptual designs and integrate interdisciplinary criteria to advance project development.
• Collaborate critically with project, consultant, and client teams, providing constructive feedback.
• Apply intermediate knowledge of building materials, systems, specifications, codes, details, and construction techniques to enrich design concepts.
• Manage personal and team workload to meet project deadlines.
• Guide and mentor less‑experienced staff.
