Transit Systems Engineer – Light Rail Projects

About the role

The Transit Systems Engineer will support the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail project, delivering system‑wide design for railroad and transit vehicle movements. The role focuses on defining requirements, interfaces and performance criteria for signal, communications and electrification systems while meeting safety and operational goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage system‑level integration, including block design calculations, safe braking and traction power return analysis.
• Perform system architecture definition, functional allocation and interface requirement development to ensure cohesive subsystem integration.
• Prepare and maintain system documentation such as requirement specifications, schematics and drawings, and support design reviews.
• Conduct electrical circuit analysis, evaluate equipment selections, and analyze field data for troubleshooting and validation.
• Support cutover planning, field engineering, shop drawing development and equipment procurement activities.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of experience in transit system design.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
• Experience working with public agencies, utilities, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Excel, MATLAB, Python, C and C++.
• Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Box, Smartsheet, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of FRA regulations (CFR 234, 236), NFPA and transit‑related codes/standards.
