Materials Engineer

About the role

Kyocera-AVX is looking for a Materials Engineer to support the selection, development and analysis of materials and manufacturing processes for a range of electronic components. This includes ceramic formulations, metal electrode selections and polymers used as binders, plasticizers and coatings. The role is based in Greenville, South Carolina.

Key responsibilities

• Plan projects, set goals, benchmark, allocate resources and build timelines
• Evaluate and select materials, including handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals
• Evaluate and select equipment, including safety assessment
• Write experimental and equipment procedures and train employees
• Run experiments, evaluate results numerically and report them orally and in writing
• Track project progress and report to collaborators and management
• Advise production, sales, marketing, quality and other groups on common issues
• Implement management directives on business, ethics, environmental, health, safety, continuous improvement and workplace well-being

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Ceramic or Chemical Engineering
• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Team experience is preferred, especially working with mechanical and electrical engineers
• Good communication and documentation skills

Required skills

• Understanding of structure-property relationships in electronic devices
• Knowledge of processing techniques such as milling, tape casting, screen printing, die pressing and high-temperature heat treatments
• Knowledge of characterization methods such as thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and electron beam instruments
• Project management tools such as Smartsheet or MS Project (highly desired)
• Statistical software such as Minitab or JMP (highly desired)
