Market Grille Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Market Grille Clerk in its Market Grille department. The clerk serves fresh, made-to-order food at the counter and keeps the line running smoothly by managing orders, handling food safely and working as part of a team. The role is hourly and FLSA.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers and answer the telephone, including taking product orders
• Take customer orders at the counter and run the department register, receiving payment and making change
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs and prepare and replenish products
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer, check food freshness and handle food safely
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area, check in product, put it away and review invoices
• Price and order product, deliver orders, remove trash and wash dishes as needed
• Work as a team, assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned
• Follow Hy-Vee policies, dress standards and personal hygiene, and report to work on time

Required profile

• No education requirement; all training is provided
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, use sharp knives and blades safely, and handle heat and burn hazards from cooking equipment
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with DOT standards, where applicable
• Exposure to noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes and cleaning chemicals in a busy kitchen environment

Required skills

• Follow written or verbal instructions and perform simple addition and subtraction, counting and recording accurately
• Communicate supply needs orally or in writing and work well as part of a team
