Hy-Chi Department Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Hy-Chi Department Clerk in its Hy-Chi department. The clerk fills customer orders, prepares and replenishes product, keeps the department running smoothly and delivers friendly service. Night and weekend shifts are required, and the role is fast-paced with significant pressure to meet demands during a shift.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, take orders at the Hy-Chi counter and assist them throughout the store
• Review daily orders and ensure enough food is ready by developing or following a production list
• Prepare, finish and replenish product, pulling items from the cooler or freezer
• Check food for freshness and maintain quality standards
• Receive product, put it away, review invoices and run the department register, receiving payment and making change
• Follow sanitation procedures, keep the area clean and safe, remove trash and wash dishes as needed
• Order product and supplies, price items for customers and answer the phone promptly
• Pitch in with other tasks and special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Up to six months of similar or related experience; training is provided
• Commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customers
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detail
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, and to handle heat and burn hazards from cooking equipment
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle in line with DOT standards

Required skills

• Basic math: simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording
• Clear communication with customers and co-workers
• Proper sanitation, food safety and department procedures

The position is hourly and contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
