Market Grille Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Market Grille Clerk in Iowa City, Iowa, an hourly position in the Market Grille department. The clerk serves fresh, made-to-order food at the counter and keeps the department running smoothly by managing orders, handling food safely and working as part of a team. Night and weekend shifts are required.

Key responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greet customers and answer the telephone, including taking product orders
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs and prepare and replenish products
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer, check its freshness and appearance, and maintain a clean, sanitary work area
• Check in product, put it away and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register, receive payment and make change
• Price and order product, deliver orders and remove trash and wash dishes as needed
• Work as a team, assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned
• Follow Hy-Vee policies, dress standards and hygiene rules, and report to work on time

Required profile

• No education requirement; all training is provided
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, handle repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending, and use sharp knives and blades safely
• Exposure to heat, noise, equipment movement and cleaning chemicals; training is provided
• Ability to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards, where applicable

Required skills

• Follow written or verbal instructions and perform simple addition and subtraction, counting and recording accurately
• Communicate supply needs orally or in writing and work well as part of a team
