Managing Actuary

About the role

HCSC is hiring a Managing Actuary in Chicago. The role manages the implementation, maintenance and critical review and analysis of actuarial models, studies and systems used for pricing, underwriting, reserving, forecasting and other actuarial functions, including developing complex models and teaching others how to build them.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the implementation, maintenance and critical review and analysis of actuarial models, studies and systems used for pricing, underwriting, reserving, forecasting and other actuarial functions
• Develop complex models and teach others how to develop models
• Create written and oral presentations that support decision-making
• Manage day-to-day projects that may involve non-actuarial departments
• Demonstrate a deep understanding of one actuarial area or business segment

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics; other degrees may be considered
• Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), with compliance with membership requirements
• At least 4 years of actuarial experience in health insurance or a related field
• Verbal and written communication skills for documentation, training and presentations
• PC proficiency including Word and Excel

Preferred qualifications

• Access, SQL, Visual Basic or other programming skills
• Medicare experience
• Experience planning and building new analytical processes
• Familiarity with clinical operational data as leading indicators

The role is hybrid with three days a week in the office, and no visa sponsorship is available. Base pay ranges from $102,000 to $184,300, with an annual incentive bonus plan subject to its terms and conditions.
