Manager, Laboratory Services

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an experienced Manager to lead its Laboratory Services team. This role oversees daily laboratory operations, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and drives continuous improvement in testing quality.

Key responsibilities

• Lead laboratory teams to perform tasks according to organizational protocols and safety standards.
• Communicate policy updates, procedural changes, and general information to staff.
• Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, diagnose issues, and coordinate repairs or service requests.
• Plan, prioritize, and direct work activities to ensure efficient operations.
• Investigate and resolve patient testing problems and procedural issues.
• Participate in hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans.
• Assist in designing and implementing new procedures and instrumentation.
• Oversee quality control, proficiency testing, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate continuing education activities and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Develop strategic goals, training programs, and competency assessment tools for the section.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of operational management, organizational development, financial oversight, and team leadership.
• Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and internal control procedures.
