Major Gifts Officer

About the role

The Major Gifts Officer will manage and expand a portfolio of major donors to support CNPS’s mission. Working independently yet closely with the Development and Executive Directors, the role focuses on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts of $5,000 and above.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and grow a portfolio of 75+ major donors and prospects, serving as the primary relationship manager.
• Design and execute individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans to increase donor engagement and giving.
• Secure a consistent volume of gifts of $5,000+ each year and meet assigned revenue targets.
• Organize donor cultivation events such as small‑group field trips, special events, and virtual engagements.
• Identify and develop mid‑level donors and new major‑gift prospects to sustain a robust pipeline.
• Prepare compelling donor communications, proposals, reports, and impact updates in partnership with Development and Communications teams.
• Utilize the CRM system to track donor interactions, monitor portfolio performance, and report key metrics.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on transformational donors, provide research briefs, and contribute to long‑range pipeline planning and revenue forecasting.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience managing a portfolio of major donors and securing gifts of $5,000 or more.
• Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with individual supporters.
• Independent work style combined with effective collaboration across senior leadership.
• Excellent written communication skills for proposals, reports, and stewardship materials.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a donor‑management CRM system.
