Maintenance Technician

About the role

Saputo, a top 10 global dairy processor, is hiring a Maintenance Technician in Frederick. The role covers troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining industrial production and processing machinery and equipment, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, valves, photo eyes, switches, heat exchangers and level controls. The schedule is a 12-hour rotating 2/2/3 shift from 5pm to 5:30am, and training Monday to Friday during the first few months is required.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze test results, error messages and operator information to diagnose equipment problems.
• Clean, lubricate and adjust parts, equipment and machinery; disassemble and reassemble equipment after inspection, testing or repair.
• Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear, and observe and test machinery with voltmeters and other devices.
• Troubleshoot, install, repair and maintain industrial machinery, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, gearboxes, VFD/HMI/Servo controls, conveyors, industrial printers, valves, photo eyes, switches, heat exchangers and level controls.
• Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components, cut and weld metal to fix parts and fabricate new ones.
• Refer to blueprints and manufacturer manuals for correct installation and operation.
• Operate and support industrial, refrigeration, boiler and utility operations.
• Demonstrate equipment functions to machine operators, program computer-controlled machinery and complete scheduled preventative maintenance.
• Record maintenance records, work orders and tasks accurately and enter planned and unplanned activities into MP2 or another MIS/ERP system.
• Follow SOPs, federal, state and local safety regulations, and SQF, GMP and 5S guidelines; comply with the Saputo code of ethics.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of prior industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, with a strong electrical background and mechanical skills.
• Experience with ammonia refrigeration, high-pressure boilers and utilities; experience reading electrical schematics and computerized or automated controls is a plus.
• Willingness to work any shift, including overtime and weekends, and to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds unassisted; able to work in a wet, cold and/or humid environment.

Required skills

• Troubleshooting electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Strong electrical background and mechanical skills.
• Reading electrical schematics and familiarity with computerized or automated controls (a plus).
• SAP experience desired.
