Maintenance Mechanic 2 – Weekend Shift

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 2 to support the Coral Gables Campus on a weekend shift (Saturday – Wednesday, 1 pm – 9:30 pm). The role ensures building systems operate smoothly and responds to service requests, emergencies, and preventive maintenance tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, install, modify, and maintain general building systems and equipment.
• Ensure all systems are fully operational and inspected according to accepted standards.
• Direct and support technical support staff and act as a training resource for less‑experienced team members.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance and repair programs.
• Respond to hot calls, cold calls, odor complaints, water and life‑safety system issues, and fire‑system emergencies.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.
• Identify deficiencies (economic, safety, regulatory, energy) and report them to supervisors.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant maintenance experience.
• Valid Miami‑Dade County license and Florida driver’s license.
• Ability to work as essential personnel with after‑hours and weekend rotations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Ability to perform minor plumbing repairs, fix leaks, and unblock drains.
• Knowledge of water, life‑safety, and fire‑system operations.
