Mainline Excavator Operator – $1,500 Sign-On Bonus

About the role

Layton Services is seeking a Mainline Excavator Operator to operate heavy machinery for installing water, sewer, and storm utilities. You will dig trenches to proper grade, work in single and double‑stacked boxes, and collaborate closely with site supervisors and crew members to ensure safe, efficient project completion.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators with precision to dig on grade around existing utilities and within trench boxes.
• Collaborate with pipe layers, foremen, and superintendents to follow plans and maintain safety standards.
• Operate multiple types of heavy machinery proficiently.
• Read and interpret site plans, specifications, and cut sheets.
• Follow project specifications and supervisor instructions to complete tasks accurately.
• Adhere to all OSHA and Layton Services safety regulations.
• Perform any additional duties required by the role.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of industry experience.
• At least 2 years of excavating experience for mainline utilities.
• Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, trenching, and material handling techniques.
• Ability to read and follow project plans, site maps, and supervisor directions.
• Understanding of OSHA workplace safety regulations; OSHA 10‑Hour certification required, OSHA Trenching and Excavating certification can be obtained after hire.
