About the role
The Machinist II will work in the Texas A&M Engineering Workforce Development shop, fabricating, maintaining and repairing metal parts, tools and equipment. Reporting to general supervision, the role supports faculty, students and research projects by producing high‑precision components.
Key responsibilities
- Perform semi‑complex mechanical machining tasks on steel, aluminum and other materials.
- Manufacture gears, threads, shafts, adaptors, jigs and fixtures to close tolerances from drawings, prints or verbal instructions.
- Assist faculty and students with laboratory experiments and research equipment.
- Order and manage inventory of machine‑shop parts.
- Provide routine maintenance for laboratory equipment.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent; combination of education and experience acceptable.
- At least five years of related machining or metal‑fabrication experience.
- Graduates of a vocational training program are preferred.
Required skills
- Machining and metal fabrication.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and sketches.
- Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
