Machine Shop Technician for Space Institute

About the role

The Laboratory Coordinator supports daily operations of the Texas A&M University Space Institute’s machine shop, coordinating fabrication activities, equipment usage, maintenance, and user support.

Key responsibilities

• Operate CNC mills, lathes, welding tools and related equipment to fabricate parts, prototypes and custom components.
• Track labor, materials, equipment utilization and maintain documentation for work orders, scheduling and maintenance.
• Provide hands‑on technical support, training and safety guidance to tenants, staff and users.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of shop equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, machining or related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least four years of experience in machining, fabrication or technical laboratory/shop environments.
• U.S. citizenship (position is security‑sensitive).

Required skills

• Operation of CNC and manual machining equipment (mills, lathes, welding tools).
• Experience with CAD/CAM software and precision measurement tools.
• Knowledge of safety procedures, SOP implementation and equipment calibration.
