Machine Learning Fellowship – Rainmaker

About the role

The Rainmaker Machine Learning Fellowship is a paid, full‑time research appointment for early‑career researchers to work on a scoped ML project that supports Rainmaker's cloud‑seeding and precipitation‑enhancement programs.

Key responsibilities

• Translate a scientific or operational question into a measurable ML problem and build the necessary training and validation datasets.
• Develop, train, evaluate, and debug models using real sensor and operational data, establishing baselines and quantifying uncertainty.
• Collaborate closely with atmospheric scientists to define targets, constraints, and success criteria.
• Deliver a final artifact such as a benchmark dataset, model, prototype, evaluation report, or research paper.

Required profile

• Current undergraduate, master’s, PhD student, post‑doctoral researcher, recent graduate, or other early‑career researcher.
• Strong quantitative reasoning and ability to design credible experiments.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Availability for full‑time, on‑site work in El Segundo for the appointment period.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Experience with a modern machine‑learning framework (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
