Machine Learning Engineer – Inference Maintainer & Developer Experience

About the role

Roboflow is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to own and evolve its flagship inference engine. You will drive the automation of contributions, improve release cadence, and act as the public face of the project.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain the inference engine, ensuring quality as contribution volume scales.
• Design an agent‑driven contribution pipeline with automated review, triage, CI/CD and end‑to‑end testing.
• Expand a comprehensive test suite to enable nightly runs across all targets.
• Define and enforce review standards, encoding judgment into the system.
• Streamline the integration of new computer‑vision models into the engine.
• Teach and enable internal teams, field engineers, support staff and customers.
• Translate new capabilities into documentation, demos and launch materials.
• Contribute to and grow the open‑source community around inference.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience building and operating production‑grade ML systems.
• Deep understanding of computer‑vision inference, deployment across diverse environments, and real‑world scaling.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, own outcomes and make sound engineering judgments.
• Experience collaborating across engineering, support, field and marketing teams.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, TensorRT, vLLM (or similar LLM deployment tools).
• Image/video processing libraries: OpenCV, DeepStream, Pillow, PyAV.
• CI/CD, release engineering and test infrastructure.
• Experience with AI coding agents for automation.
• Familiarity with video streaming protocols and hardware‑accelerated decoding (optional).
