Lower School Teacher

About the role

Metairie Park Country Day School is seeking a dedicated Lower School Teacher for the 2026‑2027 academic year. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, inclusive community and be responsible for delivering a comprehensive elementary curriculum to students in a homeroom setting.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑create a homeroom environment that balances intellectual growth and character development.
• Teach core subjects such as language arts, mathematics, geography/social studies, and history.
• Design and deliver individualized and small‑group lesson plans that meet diverse learner needs.
• Develop cross‑curricular units using active pedagogy and integrate technology where appropriate.
• Assess student strengths and weaknesses, and collaborate with parents, tutors, and learning specialists on remediation plans.
• Communicate regularly with parents and school leadership about student progress.
• Participate in grade‑level, divisional, and departmental teams to ensure curricular alignment.
• Contribute to the school community through coaching, after‑school clubs, and other activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred).
• Significant experience teaching elementary‑aged children.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and support staff.
• Flexibility, open‑mindedness, and commitment to professional learning.
• Alignment with the school’s mission of inclusion, equity, and justice.
