Low Voltage Technician

About the role

Applied Business Communications (ABcom) is hiring a full-time Low Voltage Technician in Iowa City for its Field department. The role covers installing and terminating telecommunications cabling, working with cabling crews and building out telecommunications closets. The salary is listed as USD 60,000 to 72,800.

Key responsibilities

• Work with cabling crews and build out telecommunications closets.
• Install cable support systems made of cable tray, j-hooks and ladder tray.
• Install Cat 6 horizontal station cable, backbone cable, fiber optic cable and inner duct.
• Install special systems such as security, CCTV, audio-visual and fire alarm cabling.
• Terminate Cat 6 4-pair modular outlets and optical fiber (multi-mode, single-mode, LC, SC).
• Copper and fiber splicing (fusion or mechanical) and testing of copper (UTP and coax) and optical fiber.
• Troubleshoot copper and optical fiber problems.
• Work on ladders, use power tools, and lift, carry and set up a 50 lb ladder; work overtime and under pressure as needed.

Required profile

• OSHA 10 certification required.
• 1 year of experience in the communications cabling industry; data center experience is a plus.
• Clear knowledge of codes and standards.
• Ability to complete and submit accurate documentation such as timesheets.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, professional dress and demeanor, and a positive attitude.

Required skills

• Owns and maintains the company's communications technician hand tools and knows how to use them.
• Desired: BICSI Certified Technician (Installer 1 or 2, copper and/or fiber), other manufacturer certifications, and others such as confined space.
