Network Engineer

About the role

AMAX is an IT infrastructure and advanced computing solutions company serving enterprise and OEM customers with customized systems, from servers and workstations to rack solutions and HPC/GPU-accelerated infrastructure. As a Network Engineer, you will strengthen the network foundation behind a cloud-like infrastructure environment, working closely with the infrastructure, security and operations teams. The role is hands-on engineering with meaningful ownership of the underlying platform and the operational needs that keep the datacenter running.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate the on-prem network infrastructure underpinning the cloud-like environment
• Own VLAN design, routing, firewall policy and load balancer configuration across the datacenter
• Manage network segmentation and access control for security and compliance
• Build and maintain configuration-as-code for network devices using Ansible (and Terraform/Terragrunt where applicable)
• Work with infrastructure/DevSecOps engineers on shared tooling, monitoring and automation
• Monitor network health with Prometheus, Grafana and Alertmanager and troubleshoot routing, switching, firewall and load balancing issues
• Provide datacenter support for co-located customers (cabling, hardware swaps, rack/stack work, basic troubleshooting)
• Join business-hours (M-F) on-call rotation for customer and network support
• Use Jira and Confluence in an SDLC/Scrum workflow, and help define network standards, runbooks and best practices

Required profile

• Solid working knowledge of networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, firewalls and load balancers
• Hands-on experience with configuration-as-code for infrastructure using Ansible
• Exposure to on-prem/datacenter network operations
• Willingness to do hands-on datacenter/hardware work (cabling, rack/stack, hardware troubleshooting)
• Prior colocation/datacenter smart-hands experience
• Nice to have: networking certifications (e.g. CCNA) or formal networking coursework; prior experience building an infrastructure/network team from scratch
