Linux Administrator

About the role

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Linux Administrator to support federal government programs. You will work with onsite system designers to implement and maintain robust Linux infrastructure, ensuring continuous 24x7x365 service availability.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with onsite system design personnel to deploy new software and hardware.
• Maintain and develop Linux infrastructure across RedHat, CentOS, and Ubuntu platforms.
• Provide 24x7x365 uptime and monitor system performance and capacity.
• Manage software upgrades, patches, network hardware, and workstations.
• Install and configure Linux systems, back‑end databases, and scripts.
• Perform system maintenance, review error logs, and create system backups.
• Develop and maintain system recovery procedures and security configurations.
• Document all implemented systems and manage DNS, RADIUS, Apache, MySQL, and PHP services.
• Analyze hardware requirements and recommend acquisitions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Active Secret security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
• Minimum five years of Linux administration experience.
• Relevant IAT Level II security certifications (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).

• Salary range $110,000 – $145,000 per year.
