Lifeguard – Stow Health and Wellness

About the role

The Stow Health and Wellness Center, part of Cleveland Clinic Akron General, is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure a safe, sanitary aquatic environment for members. This PRN position works varied shifts between 5:00 AM and 10:30 PM and may include floating to other sites as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor the pool continuously during open swim, lap swim, and scheduled programs, never leaving the water unattended.
• Perform daily and closing duties such as chemical testing, pool deck cleaning, equipment management, and securing the facility.
• Enforce pool rules, respond to emergencies, and follow the Emergency Action Plan for fire, weather, and injuries.
• Assist with equipment maintenance, attend mandatory in‑services, and maintain personal swim fitness.
• Teach or lead swim lessons and aquatic programs, preparing lesson plans according to Red Cross or LifeStyles curriculum and taking attendance.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current nationally recognized Lifeguard certification and First Aid.
• Current CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross or equivalent).

Required skills

• Ability to perform water rescue techniques and manage a backboard.
• Proficiency in chemical testing and pool safety procedures.
• Knowledge of Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) curriculum (preferred).
