Lifeguard II – Part‑Time Pool Safety Role

About the role

The YMCA of Greater Boston is hiring a Lifeguard II to ensure a safe and welcoming pool environment during the summer season and beyond. This part‑time, non‑exempt position reports to the Aquatics Director and offers a competitive hourly wage.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool to prevent emergencies and respond immediately to incidents.
• Enforce pool rules, complete incident reports, and activate emergency action plans when needed.
• Provide CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen care; perform rescues and assists.
• Maintain a clean, safe pool area, including cleaning and testing when off‑duty.
• Communicate consistently with supervisors and participate in safety drills and trainings.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age with active Lifeguard certifications (YMCA, Red Cross, etc.).
• Physical ability to scan the pool, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 lb.
• Availability for varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and summer months.

Required skills

• YMCA Lifeguarding certification
• CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certification
• Child Abuse Prevention training (first 4 weeks)
• Respect in the Workplace (Sexual Harassment Prevention) training
