Lifeguard I – Part‑Time Pool Safety Role

About the role

The YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a part‑time Lifeguard I to ensure the safety of patrons at the Huntington YMCA pool. Under the Aquatics Director’s supervision, you will monitor the pool, enforce rules, and respond to emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously scan the pool to prevent emergencies and intervene immediately when needed.
• Perform rescues, administer CPR, First Aid, and emergency oxygen.
• Complete incident reports promptly and enforce pool rules.
• Maintain a clean, safe pool environment and assist with cleaning and testing when off‑duty.
• Participate in safety drills, trainings, and maintain clear communication with supervisors.

Required profile

• At least 16 years of age.
• Physically able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lb, and interact verbally with members.
• Flexible availability for early mornings, nights, weekends and ability to find own coverage for schedule changes.

Required skills

• CPR certification.
• First Aid certification.
• Emergency Oxygen (O₂) certification.
• Professional Lifeguard training (including Disappearing Dummies).
• YMCA Lifeguarding certification.
