Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

About the role

Stony Brook Children's Service, UFPC is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Center Moriches, NY, on a full-time schedule Monday to Friday. The LPN provides direct patient care under the supervision of the practice, performs clerical duties, acts as receptionist, maintains medical records and communicates with all departments.

Key responsibilities

• Collect clinical data on patients, triage phone calls and troubleshoot medication management issues
• Document nursing observations, interventions and patient responses in patient records
• Perform venipuncture and administer injections for blood specimens, and process and distribute specimens accurately
• Take vital signs, weight and height, and point-of-service blood glucose tests, reporting abnormalities to the medical provider or RN
• Collect routine urine specimens and clean-catch specimens, following OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards and standard precautions
• Facilitate referrals in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN)
• Maintain and monitor stock inventory, prepare supply requisitions and report equipment problems to the RN or Office Manager
• Handle phone calls, patient registration, appointments, data entry and lab/diagnostic requisitions
• Follow patient flow protocol (reception, registration, labs, escort to provider) and keep records confidential

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing school
• Currently registered in New York State as an LPN
• Excellent communication skills
• Competency in venipuncture; three years of ambulatory care experience preferred

Pay is listed as $28.62 - $35.74, varying with experience, education and market conditions.
