Library Specialist I

About the role

The Library Specialist I provides front‑line support during evening and overnight hours at the Annex and Evans Library Service Desks. The role focuses on creating a welcoming, safe environment for patrons while handling basic circulation tasks and building security.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the front service desk, charge/discharge materials, and assist patrons with resource access.
• Monitor library spaces, enforce noise and food/drink policies, and respond to disruptions or emergencies.
• Perform re‑shelving oversight, assign tasks to student employees, and provide backup support to other library locations as needed.
• Document incidents, assist with emergency evacuations, and act as a proctor during crises.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year of library, customer service, or office experience.
• Ability to work Sunday‑Thursday, late evening to early morning (6:45 pm‑3:15 am) and adjust schedule for extended hours or emergencies.
• Reliable attendance, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to lift medium‑weight items.

Required skills

• Proficiency with email, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and internet searches.
• Basic conflict‑resolution and customer‑service abilities.
