Library Specialist I

About the role

The Library Specialist I provides front‑line support during evening and overnight hours at the Annex and Evans Library Service Desks. The role focuses on creating a welcoming, safe environment for patrons while handling routine desk operations and building security.

Key responsibilities

• Assist visitors at the service desks, charge/discharge materials, and provide basic reference help.
• Monitor library spaces, enforce noise and food/drink policies, and respond to disruptions or emergencies.
• Perform re‑shelving checks, assign tasks to student employees, and back‑up other service points as needed.
• Document incidents, support emergency evacuations, and maintain building safety during late hours.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year of library, customer service, or office experience.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work Sunday‑Thursday, 6:45 pm‑3:15 am, with occasional schedule adjustments.
• Physical ability to move medium‑weight boxes and handle dusty materials.

Required skills

• Proficiency with email, word processing, spreadsheet applications, and internet searches.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with basic conflict‑resolution ability.
