Library Community Specialist I (Part Time)

About the role

The Library Community Specialist I provides general customer service, event support, and basic library functions in public services at Texas A&M University‑Central Texas. The position is part‑time, benefits‑eligible, and works on‑site in Killeen.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patrons during library events, troubleshoot basic issues, and escalate complex questions.
• Design marketing materials for summer camps, tutoring, and outreach events; update selected web pages with current resources.
• Perform front‑desk circulation tasks such as checking items in/out, shelving, and monitoring the public environment.
• Handle program registration, room requests, inventory of supplies, and communicate details to participants.
• Participate in staff meetings, task forces, and collaborate with colleagues to improve library services.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year of related library or instructional experience.
• Experience working with children, supporting public programs or events, and providing customer service.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lb and push a loaded book truck (~75 lb); handle dust or mold spores safely.

Required skills

• Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
• Proficiency with email and internet search engines.
• Basic keyboarding skills and ability to use computers, phones, and copier/printer/scanner equipment.

• Hourly pay of $16.00, up to 20 hours per week.
