About the role

Loyola University Chicago seeks a dedicated Lecturer of French to join its Modern Languages department. The role involves teaching French language, literature, and cultural courses across all proficiency levels, with a focus on Francophone studies.

Key responsibilities

• Teach French language courses from introductory to advanced levels, including literature in translation and Francophone cultural topics.
• Develop and deliver curricula for multiple sections, ensuring consistency and academic rigor.
• Advise and mentor students on course selection and academic progress.
• Prepare, administer, and grade assignments, examinations, and projects.
• Collaborate with the French section head and department chair to design and update program offerings.
• Integrate authentic cultural resources, including North and Sub‑Saharan African film, into classroom instruction.

Required profile

• PhD in French and Francophone Studies or a closely related field (ABD acceptable).
• Minimum three years of relevant teaching or academic experience.
• Demonstrated ability to teach across a spectrum of language proficiency levels.
• Strong scholarly background in French literature, cinema, and interdisciplinary Francophone studies.

Required skills

• Instructional design for language curricula.
• Development of assessment tools and grading rubrics.
• Effective classroom facilitation and academic discussion leadership.
• Collaboration with faculty to align instructional practices with institutional standards.

What we offer

• Annual salary ranging from $60,000 to $70,000.
