Lead Platform Engineer

It’s happening at Barclays. Be part of a place where challenges are measured in billions, qubits and nanoseconds. The Lead Platform Engineer will drive global front‑office success, build trusted relationships with quants and strategists, and shape the platform roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Build and lead the global front‑office engineering success function across New York, London and APAC.
• Write high‑quality Python code for automation, integrations and tooling, and diagnose complex issues across AWS, distributed systems and model pipelines.
• Guide global front‑office teams on secure, scalable use of AWS services such as S3, IAM, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Step Functions and CloudWatch.
• Enable AI/ML adoption by helping teams onboard inference gateways, embeddings, RAG and tools like LiteLLM, MLflow, Databricks, SageMaker and Observe.
• Establish support processes, develop documentation and drive proactive monitoring for front‑office developers.
• Lead and mentor a small engineering team, set strong code quality standards and promote a collaborative culture.
• Ensure governance, model controls and data‑privacy compliance across all front‑office deployments.

Required profile

• Design, develop and deliver high‑quality, scalable software solutions using industry‑standard languages and frameworks.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements and ensure seamless integration.
• Participate in code reviews, promote code quality and share knowledge within the team.
• Stay informed of technology trends and contribute to technical communities.

Required skills

• Python programming (backend, tooling, automation).
• AWS services: IAM, S3, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Step Functions, CloudWatch, CDK/CloudFormation.
• AI/ML concepts: model inference, vector search, embeddings, retrieval‑augmented generation, evaluation.
• Tools: LiteLLM, MLflow, Databricks, SageMaker, Langfuse, Observe, Mem0.
• Containerisation: Docker, ECS/EKS.
• Platform observability and monitoring tooling.
