Lead Operator – Surface Water (Utilities)

About the role

The City of Pearland is seeking a full‑time Lead Operator for its Surface Water Department. In this role you will oversee daily water‑treatment operations, ensure compliance with water‑quality standards, and lead a team of operators in a fast‑paced municipal environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor water quality by performing laboratory tests (chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity, odors) at various treatment stages.
• Operate and maintain mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, chemical feed pumps, air compressors, valves, and hand/power tools.
• Run and service chlorination equipment, calibrate chemical feed systems, and replace chlorine containers as needed.
• Control and troubleshoot SCADA systems to manage treatment processes and ensure reliable operation.
• Provide guidance and training to junior operators and assist with schedule and resource planning.

Required profile

• Licensed TCEQ Water Operator (Grade C, B, or A) with a desire to obtain higher grades.
• Service‑oriented mindset with ability to work effectively in a fast‑moving environment.
• Experience in municipal water‑treatment operations and familiarity with regulatory compliance.

Required skills

• Water‑quality testing (chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity, odor).
• Operation of pumps, motors, chemical feed pumps, air compressors, valves, hand and power tools.
• Chlorination system maintenance and calibration.
• SCADA system operation and troubleshooting.
