Lead Operator - Surface Water

About the role

The City of Pearland is seeking a full‑time Lead Operator for its Surface Water Department. This position oversees daily water‑treatment operations, ensures compliance with water‑quality standards, and leads a team in a fast‑paced municipal environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor water quality by performing laboratory tests (chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity, odors, etc.).
• Operate and maintain mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, chemical feed pumps, air compressors, and valves.
• Run chlorination equipment, perform system maintenance, calibrate chemical feed devices, and replace chlorine containers as needed.
• Control SCADA systems to manage treatment processes and respond to alarms.
• Lead and train staff, coordinate with other utility functions, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Required profile

• Licensed TCEQ Water Operator (Grade C, B, or A).
• Service‑oriented mindset with ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience in municipal water‑treatment operations preferred.

Required skills

• Water‑quality testing (chlorine residual, pH, turbidity, hardness, alkalinity, odor).
• Operation of pumps, motors, chemical feed pumps, air compressors, and valves.
• Use of hand and power tools for equipment maintenance.
• Chlorination system operation and chemical feed equipment calibration.
• SCADA system control and troubleshooting.
