Lead Legal Counsel – Contracts & Employment Law

About the role

The Lead Legal Counsel is a senior specialist within Kelly’s Legal function, providing strategic legal guidance to one of its business units and advising the president and leadership team on complex matters.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement corporate governance policies and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Provide strategic advice on mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, and partnerships.
• Lead negotiations, draft and review contracts, leases, licensing agreements and other corporate documents.
• Manage legal risks, oversee litigation and dispute resolution, and align legal strategy with business objectives.
• Conduct due diligence for acquisitions, divestitures and major transactions.
• Manage external counsel and vendors, ensuring cost‑effective services.
• Deliver training on legal and compliance topics and promote a strong legal culture.
• Monitor legal trends, advise on data privacy (GDPR, CCPA) and implement legal technology solutions.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar membership.
• 10+ years of progressive corporate or law‑firm experience.
• Proven ability to lead legal teams and enterprise‑wide projects.
• Experience with high‑stakes negotiations, M&A, and regulatory matters.

Required skills

• Proficiency with legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Fastcase).
• Advanced knowledge of corporate governance and compliance regulations.
• Expertise in contract negotiation and drafting of complex commercial agreements.
• Strong background in employment law.
• Experience in intellectual property law (patents, trademarks, copyrights).
• Familiarity with data privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA.

What we offer

• Base salary range $160,000 – $180,000 per year, dependent on experience and location.
