Lead Bioinformatics Scientist, NGS

About the role

Profluent is building AI‑driven foundation models for biology and needs a senior scientist to own the next‑generation sequencing (NGS) analysis platform that powers its gene‑editing and protein‑design programs. You will work at the intersection of computational biology, software engineering, and experimental science to turn massive sequencing datasets into clear, actionable insights.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable NGS pipelines for gene‑editing and protein‑engineering workflows.
• Create intuitive visualizations and reports that communicate sequencing results to biologists and ML teams.
• Manage cloud‑based compute environments and data storage for large‑scale datasets.
• Partner with biology teams to analyze results, troubleshoot experiments, and optimize designs.
• Collaborate with machine‑learning groups to curate data for model training.
• Establish best practices for code review, testing, and CI/CD in computational workflows.
• Mentor junior scientists and promote rigor, reproducibility, and innovation.

Required profile

• PhD or MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience analyzing NGS datasets (amplicon sequencing, high‑throughput editing, or screening).
• Strong programming skills in Python and related scientific libraries.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
• Proficiency in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Deep understanding of Linux, git version control, and software‑engineering best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex sequencing data into actionable biological insights.
