Lead Author - Gender-Focused Regional Socio-Economic Update
Prosper Global
Job description
About the role
Prosper Global's Crisis Analytics (CA) teams, working with UNDP, produce a Regional Socio-Economic Update monitoring economic conditions, livelihoods and household welfare across Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. Prosper Global is seeking a consultant to research and write a special edition of this bulletin covering September 2025 to September 2026 through a gender lens, analysing how economic conditions and regional instability affect women and men differently, with particular attention to livelihoods, employment, household income and resilience.
Key responsibilities
- Consolidate and analyse evidence on gender-differentiated socio-economic trends in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, identifying groups facing heightened vulnerability.
- Map available sex-disaggregated data and analysis (surveys, ILO, UN Women, UNDP, WFP, UNHCR, cluster reports, academic research) and note coverage, recency, comparability and gaps.
- Develop an analytical framework and outline, then write three sections: regional context, economic hardship (costs, inflation, employment, unpaid care, coping strategies) and access to services and opportunities.
- Hold a few remote expert consultations with specialists and gender focal points; no primary data collection with programme participants.
- Draft the bulletin and a one-page summary, revise after feedback, and deliver a debrief presentation.
Required profile
- Advanced degree in economics, development studies, gender studies, social policy or a related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in socio-economic, labour market or livelihoods analysis with a strong focus on gender analysis.
- Demonstrated experience applying intersectional approaches (age, displacement status, disability, household composition).
- Strong knowledge of the socio-economic and humanitarian contexts of Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, including refugees and displaced populations; regional experience strongly preferred.
Required skills
- Gender analysis and intersectional socio-economic analysis.
- Data mapping and synthesis of secondary data and reports.
- Writing of policy-oriented, evidence-based reports.
The assignment is primarily desk-based, takes up to 15-20 working days over about eight weeks, and reports to the CA MENAE Senior Manager, working closely with the CA teams in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria and UNDP.
